sound of my voice

Can I just say that I think I'm going to start obsessing over independent films pretty soon here?!
I went to the movie theatre in Scottsdale that only shows independent films with Paige the other day, and we saw this movie called "Sound of My Voice."  I had pretty high expectations after watching the trailer, and the movie definitely surpassed them!

I'm also loving the story behind Brit Marling: the lead actress, writer, and producer of the film.  28 years old, the valedictorian of her Georgetown University class, a degree in Economics, a job offer at Goldman Sachs in New York....AND after all of that, she decided to move to Los Angeles to become an artist.  After being cast in "the pretty blonde" roles, she realized that in order to play the roles that she wanted to play, she would just have to write them herself.  So, that's what she did!  She wrote the movie we saw and "Another Earth" at the same time...and they are both doing very well in the independent film community! I can't wait to see what she does next.

As for the film, I don't want to give too much away, but I can say that it was filmed in a way that gives the audience the same emotions and feelings as the two main characters...even up until the end where your thoughts about the ending teach you whether or not you are a believer like or unlike the rest of the characters.  This probably sounds so foreign to you, but please watch the trailer below and let me know what you think!!

kinda obsessed with....

People have a sort of love-hate relationship with country music.  I went through my ultimate country phase back when Shania Twain and The Dixie Chicks were the hot, new artists.  For the next years, I kind of conformed with those who are ashamed to like country.  HOWEVER, I recently set my pre-sets in my car, and I added the local country station to the list.  I've gotta say, I don't know why more people don't like country!! The lyrics are genuine, sweet, they make you smile, and they remind you that the right guy might really be out there.  Below are some of my favorites with a little blurb about what I think about when listening to them.

Just A Kiss--Lady Antebellum
(This song's just cool because it's a duet.  It reminds me of a love/lust that only happened for a short time, but both the boy and girl want it to be more than just that night.)

I Don't Want This Night To End--Luke Bryan
(I love the chorus of this one.  It's what every girl hopes a guy is thinking while she's singing to the radio, instead of "shut up."  It also reminds me of Spring/Summer/anytime where you can ride in a jeep without being cold.)

A Woman Like You--Lee Brice
(The song just proves that no matter what guys say, they all want to be married at some point in their lives, and that they will be happy about it.)

Does this change your mind about country music, or what?!

my favorite song lately

I feel like I've been MIA for way too long...but there has just been so much going on!!
This post is to let you all in on what my favorite song is right now (thanks to Kelcy for showing me this song on the train to Florence!)
This post is also to train myself to start blogging more!
Expect a post about my Christmas in Florence and New Years in Venice with my lovely family!
And about what it's like to be back.
There will also be a post reviewing an amazing hairdryer from Hana!

But without further delay, here is my favorite song right now:

someone like you

I absolutely love covers.
Especially those songs that make you think about happy times, sad times, or almost-forgotten times.
The latest is a cover of Adele's Someone Like You.
Just listen to the lyrics--and try telling me you've never felt that way.
Just listen to the lyrics--and reflect on all of the good times and the bad.
Just listen to the lyrics--and realize that you will find someone out there.
It's not about finding love.  It's about letting love find you.

I'm even talking like Marcel.  I think it's the cutest little thing ever and here is the video so you can all enjoy and watch it.

And always remember, "I loooove youu."

unwritten law

Saturday night I left the house for work thinking that I was going to meet up with the girls after and go to a party in Tempe.  But what ended up happening was sooo much more exciting.
my pretty friends <3

It turns out that while I was at work, Kelcy, Heather, Leanne, and Olivia went to Ra Sushi and the lead singer of Unwritten Law invited them to his show at the Marquee that night! VIP. And only an hour after dinner...he texted them inviting them to come hang out in the tour bus before the show.
Heather and Leanne watching
from backstage since they were 21!
I met up with them about ten minutes into the show. We got into the show without them checking our bags (since we were VIP and all), and the show was awesome.  After the show we walked right back to where the busses were.  We had to deal with some "groupies" that kept calling us names, but Scott invited us into the bus and we just listened to music and talked for the next couple of hours.
It was a blast and such an adventure :)  Check out some of Unwritten Law's music on youtube and myspace!  They're really good, and I especially like the acoustic versions.

jibjab

Have you all ever done a video on jibjab.com before?!
It's so fun...I did a Christmas elf one a few Christmases ago, and I just did another one tonight.

It's a little self absorbed, because it's all pictures of me, but I think that makes it funnier.
Oh, and there is one imposter.  It's this guy that tried to get re-named "Boomer the Dog".  He has bangs like me, so I thought he'd fit in.

Enjoy :) It's a bit silly, but I hope you like it!!

meow

I just came across this video and it's impossible to not laugh.  I don't understand how those little boys sing without laughing...especially the blond one.

Needless to say, I'd be the proudest parent in the world if my future son could sing and meow that well.  Check it out for yourselves, and if you don't want to watch the whole thing.  At least watch what happens at 1:37ish. It's amazing :

your song

Day Seven: Post the favorite cover of your favorite song.

I have a lot of favorite songs.  And I have a lot of favorite cover songs.  This is one that I discovered most recently, though.  I found it on one of the blogs I follow a few days ago (I just wish I could remember whose blog).   It is my favorite song by Sir Elton John sung by a girl named Ellie Goulding from England.  After falling in love with her voice and her version of the song, I am definitely going to be listening to more of her music.

Enjoy <3

we're on the moon

So I ran across this video of Kelcy and me from either the summer before college or the summer we lived at home after freshman year.  We were bored (because it's way too hot to go outside and have fun in Arizona during the summer).  I remember once we clicked end, our Dad came into my room and told us we should be reading or doing something intellectual instead of being computer bums and making stupid movies haha.  But I figure, if we hadn't done this, we wouldn't have something to laugh about years later.

So here it is.  Kelcy's probably going to hate me for posting it :) I'm on the left and Kel's on the right.

P.S.  I'm fascinated with space.  I used to want to be an astronaut,
until I realized that you had to be away from your family for long periods of time.
Oh, and after I tried astronaut food.

le vibrazioni

When Kelcy and I went to Italy over Christmas when we were juniors in high school, we always stayed up late watching the music video channels.  One, because it was different than the music videos that played on American television.  And two, because we were always waiting for either "Patience" by Take That or "Se" by Le Vibrazioni to come on.

Once we got back to the states, I tried desperately to find "Se" on youtube, or any other website.  I have been out of luck until now.  So here it is, my favorite Italian song when I was sixteen.

study time

After Thursday, I'll be free from studying for awhile!  But in the meantime, I've got my classical music to get me in the studying mood.

gimme dat

I am officially obsessed with Ciara's newly released music video for "Gimme Dat."

a) I want her body.
b) I want her dance moves.
c) What's stopping me?

Whenever I'm thinking about not going to the gym even though I set aside time to do so, all I need to do is think about is Ciara.  Whenever I'm going to eat that burrito even though I ate an hour ago and am full, all I need to do is think about Ciara.

I'm sure she works out and goes to the gym, but I bet her biggest form of exercise is dancing.  If I have to dance around the house or in my room when I'm home alone, I'll do it.  And I can't wait til I'm 21 so I can get exercise dancing around the club.

Enough chit chat though, here's Ciara's new (inspirational) music video:
