who and how

I was thinking about palindromes (the words where they are spelt the same forwards and backwards like noon or mom) the other day, and the following words came into mind: who and how. Now i know that neither of those words is a palindrome, but those simple words made up of the same three letters mean a lot to me.

Day in and day out, people all over the world are asking the same questions: Who am I? How did I get to be the person I am today?

Those questions can be answered quite simply, if you just think about the words who and how.
You become the person you are because of who you hang out with and how you handle situations. Sometimes it's not as simple as it should be. I wonder why I became friends with my best friends or why I've dated the people that I have. But who and how are made up of the same letters. You can't find the "who" without wondering "how". You can't find out "how" without looking at the "who".

It seems confusing, but I can wind it down into one simple sentence:

We are who we are, but how? It's who we surround ourselves with.

We are our friends and family.
