desert island

Day 3: List the five songs you would bring with you on a desert island and why.

Okay now this is tough.  For one, I don't have a favorite band or artist like a lot of people do.  And two, I really do like a variety of music...it sounds like a lame answer when you're getting to know someone, but it's true.  I like almost everything I hear, and I like a huge range of music.  But here's what I'm feeling at the moment :

  1. "We Speak No Americano" by Yolanda Be Cool.  I can't help but smile when this song comes on.  And if I'm on this deserted island by myself, the least I can do is perform my little cha cha move and pretend Kelcy's alternating front-to-back motions with me.
  2. "Karma Police" by Radiohead.  If I'm all alone in the dark, scared for my life, starving, and unable to sleep, putting this song on will sooth me into a beautiful, dreamy slumber.
  3. "Wildcat" by Ratatat.  It has zero lyrics except the sound of a wildcat rawr-ing.  It would be the perfect song to scare off animal predators.  It would also be fun to prance around the jungle and pretend I'm a cat.  There's definitely no internet on this island, so I'll have to find some way to stay entertained.
  4. "Kids" by MGMT.  Yeah, it's overplayed.  But I have some really good memories from this song.  It came out during my freshman year of college...and that was the most fun time, with the least worries, that I've ever had.  Plus it's just one of those feel good songs that makes you want to dance.
  5. "Con Te Partiro" by Andrea Bocelli.  I love Italian.  I love Italy.  I've loved Andrea Bocelli's voice and music since I first heard his CD in my Dad's car when I was little.  He's unbelievably inspirational.  I also wish I could sing opera.  And where is a better place to practice my opera skills than on a deserted island?  Oh...and it will remind me of Step Brothers...which is probably the first movie I saw in theatres that I truly laughed out loud to.

Can I bring a piano to the island too?
It will give me time to improve :)

I can't wait until the iphone comes to Verizon!

So there's my list.  Obviously I'd love to have some Justin Bieber mixed in there to dance to.  Some Taylor Swift to sing to/ reminisce to/ maybe even cry to (since I'd be solo and alone for as long as it takes to get rescued).  Some solo piano music to relax to.  And even some hard core rap to jam out to.  I'd finally have the time to memorize the quick and witty lyrics of all the rap stars.

It reminds me of the time on that one plane ride when I wrote out every lyric (even if I made it up to match the sound) to Bye Bye Miss American Pie.

it never changes

Maybe this is why I love taking pictures, putting together photo albums of every year in college, and probably for the rest of my life.
It's funny to look back on pictures of people who you used to spend the majority of your time with.  Now they're just distant memories.  Where are they now? Why did we go from being inseparable to not wanting to run into them?
According to Andy Warhol...I guess it's because people change.
I've changed.  The times change.  The places change.
Everything changes...except a photograph.

we're on the moon

So I ran across this video of Kelcy and me from either the summer before college or the summer we lived at home after freshman year.  We were bored (because it's way too hot to go outside and have fun in Arizona during the summer).  I remember once we clicked end, our Dad came into my room and told us we should be reading or doing something intellectual instead of being computer bums and making stupid movies haha.  But I figure, if we hadn't done this, we wouldn't have something to laugh about years later.

So here it is.  Kelcy's probably going to hate me for posting it :) I'm on the left and Kel's on the right.

P.S.  I'm fascinated with space.  I used to want to be an astronaut,
until I realized that you had to be away from your family for long periods of time.
Oh, and after I tried astronaut food.

inspiration

Day 2: Post something that inspires you.

What inspires me most is words of wisdom: quotes, pep talks, listening to the words of successful people.  Some of my favorite quotes you will find below.  They are the quotes I look at when I'm feeling sad, disappointed, excited, driven, happy, or mad.  Quotes can help you think about your own life, and a good quote can change your emotion.

"Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today."

"Things happen too fast, so be kind to everyone.
Treat friends and family as if you will never get to hear their voices again.
Live everyday as if it's your last.
You never know when your last breath will be."

"Sometimes you have to forget how you feel;
and remember what you deserve."

Audrey Hepburn's right <3
"In one moment your entire life can change course.
The moment you decide where you're going
because you refuse to go back to where you've been."

"Life isn't about finding yourself.
Life is about creating yourself."

"If he's dumb enough to walk away,
be smart enough to let him go."

"Everything will turn out alright in the end.
If it's not good, then it's not the end."

mmm delights

Today has been an absolutely perfect day <3

I woke up for my communications class this morning and realized that my printer didn't have ink to print an assignment I needed by three...so I decided to skip com and head on over to target.  When I got home from my errands, I went to Essence Bakery with Kelcy and had a delicious grilled cheese (good bread, mozzarella cheese, fresh tomato, and organic basil) and a chocolate croissant.  Olivia met us there, and then we got in the car and went to Olivia's old apartment complex to lay out in the beautiful 88 degree weather for a couple of hours.

amazing grilled cheese & potato salad
I had to go to school after that, but when Kelcy came to switch the car with me, she surprised me with a pumpkin frappuccino from Starbucks!!! <3 Such an amazing surprise!  I'd never had one before...and I can now say that I will be getting one everytime I go to Starbucks as long as they're in season.
thank you kelky!! <3 <3 <3

Half way through the day, I got my daily horoscope from the newspaper: "Time flies when you're having fun, so you will want to enjoy every minute today."  --Which I am :)

Tonight will be incredible too.  Possible Chipotle date with Kelcy (I'm jealous because Olivia got Chipotle after the pool!) after she gets out of class...and Due Date at midnight with the best friends and their boyfriends <3 [Olivia's my date tonight haha]

guilty pleasures

My friend Kristen did this "blog assignment" over summer and I'll be doing it over the next few months too :)

Day 1: Guilty Pleasures

Gossip Girl...for many reasons.
1) The beautiful boys.
2) The classy girls I wish I could be (Serena in particular)
3) It means hanging out with my amigas every Monday night.

Pretty Little Liars

It's not in season right now...in fact they just had a crazy cliffhanger which is one of the main reasons I can't wait for January.
It's a high school, less upper-class, version of Gossip Girl.  And it makes me wish I went to an ordinary high school all the more.

Twilight

I remember reading the first book and absolutely melting.  The books are obviously going to be better than the movies, but I'm definitely not saying no to watching Kellan Lutz, Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, and that new vampire (Riley) on a big screen.

Facebook...

Who isn't addicted?  I mean we think it's weird when someone doesn't have a facebook.  But, it's definitely my ultimate guilty pleasure.  When I wake up, multiple times throughout the day, on my phone, before I go to bed--I have to check my facebook.

What are some of your guilty pleasures?? Maybe I'll want to make them mine as well :)

samuel elliott

So after the last few episodes of Gossip Girl...I definitely have a new "gg boy" crush <3  In the show he's a professor at Columbia, and in real life he's a 34 year old [a bit old for me, but who cares? ;) ] actor named Samuel Page.  His birth name, however, is Samuel Elliott, which is way dreamier, I think.

After doing a little research on him, I found out that he's actually smart in real life--which makes him all the more perfect.  He graduated from Princeton University and had his senior thesis published in a science journal.  Oh...and he's from Wisconsin.  So he was probably raised well and is nice and family-oriented.

My perfect man: handsome, sweet, funny, smart, classy, driven.
[or anyone like Samuel Elliott for that matter]

halloween fiesta

El Casa Trio ( I know it's not gramatically correct in Spanish, haha) consists of myself, my sister Kelcy, and our best friend, Paige.  We decided to bring the Halloween festivities to us this weekend, so we had an amazing party on Friday night!  All of our good friends came and more.  I would say at the largest time there were probably 150-200 people there...it was one of the biggest parties I've been to, and definitely the biggest party I've EVER hosted.  When it got to the point when there were more people there that we didn't know than people that we did know, we decided to call it quits.  So we ended the party with a little after party and some late night pizza at Paige's boyfriend's condo.

Here are some pictures from the event <3  It's going to be a bit picture heavy just because Halloween is my favorite weekend for pictures!!  I hope you all had an awesome Halloween too!!
Kelcy, (me), and Livs getting ready

drinking the classy stuff

3 groupies & a prostitute
Kel, Olivia, Paige, and me with
the koolaid man <3
groupies & rockstars

I can't wait til next year!!

p.s. thanks to all of you who helped me decide what shoes to wear! I chose the black because I thought they were a bit more "groupie"-ish

i think

I think a lot when I'm alone, and right now is one of those times.  Even just driving in the car alone, I always have these thoughts going through my head.  They may not make sense to you, but they make sense to me.  So I'm just going to lay them all out...right now.

I like having my alone time...it give me time to think, worry about me, play piano, and get things done.
I'm excited for my best friend, Paige.  Even though I only see her 30 minutes at a time, I'm glad she's found happiness in a boy and I hope it works out and she doesn't get hurt.
I like how my sister loves spending time with her boyfriend, but she also likes being apart from him so she can live her own life--and I think that's important.
I feel like in the past I've had all guy friends, and this semester it seems to be all girls.  And I like that...I can talk about things that I couldn't talk about with my guy friends (like love).
Now that it's getting closer to the Spring semester, I'm starting to regret not applying for the study abroad program in Milan.
I'm wondering if I should apply for Fall 2011, or will I change my mind again?
Although it's nice being single, I long for the day where a boy doesn't leave me after a week, two weeks, or a month.
I don't think I'm crazy....maybe the right person hasn't found me yet.  And that's fine.
I'd rather be single until the right one comes along than spend a lot of time in a relationship that isn't going to work out in the end.
I miss summer and California.  I miss staying at the house Olivia was house-sitting, meeting new people all day (Olivia's long time friends), and I miss the adventure of it all.
I miss 3rd Street Promenade and the ocean breeze and not knowing what's going to happen next.
I miss being really "into" somebody.  It hasn't happened since summer and that might just mean that my heart knows how to protect itself now until it's right.  Maybe I just haven't found someone in Arizona that's worth it.
Now I'm just thinking too much haha...
Last one:  I really want the plan for all us to have a summer internship in LA this summer to work out.  It would be the best summer of my life.  I'd finally be moving away from home...but for work and experience instead of for school.

telling a lie

"Telling the truth and making someone cry is better than telling a lie and making someone smile."
 --Paolo Coelho

It seems a little harsh, but the more I think about it, the more true it becomes.  It seems like telling a white lie would be the nicest thing to do, but would you want to be lied to? And find out later that that nice compliment wasn't true?

Speaking of Paolo Coelho, I want to start reading more books like The Alchemist and philosophical-type stories that make you think about your own life.  I'm reading Eat Pray Love right now...but do you all have any other ideas??

workout wednesdays

Today me and the girls started our new weekly "Workout Wednesdays."  Olivia is a way better athlete than any of us, so she played coach tonight.  First off, the weather was AMAZING.  67 degrees and breezy.  And it was so cool to see so many active people participating in sports all around us...definitely a motivation.  We ran around the university field twice (incorporating a little walking and some lunges).  After, we did some core crunches and leg lift/plank things haha.  It was a really good start to our weekly workout session, and every week we're going to try and up our reps and sets <3

i know this isn't a picture of people exercising...
but i searched "running" on weheartit
and couldn't resist <3
