sound of my voice

Can I just say that I think I'm going to start obsessing over independent films pretty soon here?!
I went to the movie theatre in Scottsdale that only shows independent films with Paige the other day, and we saw this movie called "Sound of My Voice."  I had pretty high expectations after watching the trailer, and the movie definitely surpassed them!

I'm also loving the story behind Brit Marling: the lead actress, writer, and producer of the film.  28 years old, the valedictorian of her Georgetown University class, a degree in Economics, a job offer at Goldman Sachs in New York....AND after all of that, she decided to move to Los Angeles to become an artist.  After being cast in "the pretty blonde" roles, she realized that in order to play the roles that she wanted to play, she would just have to write them herself.  So, that's what she did!  She wrote the movie we saw and "Another Earth" at the same time...and they are both doing very well in the independent film community! I can't wait to see what she does next.

As for the film, I don't want to give too much away, but I can say that it was filmed in a way that gives the audience the same emotions and feelings as the two main characters...even up until the end where your thoughts about the ending teach you whether or not you are a believer like or unlike the rest of the characters.  This probably sounds so foreign to you, but please watch the trailer below and let me know what you think!!

london calling

Last weekend, Sheri and I headed on our first trip of exchange: LONDON!
My friend Gibson was nice enough to let us crash on his two couches, so we didn't have to pay for a hostel!  Therefore, it all went to pub food, chilango's, taxi rides, bus tickets, tube tickets, falafel sandwiches, and shoppppping <3
Here's a breakdown of our trip:

THURSDAY:
gelato at the airport

We arrived at about 2am.  We were scared.  We didn't think to look up how to get to Gibson's house. We were harassed (I'm talking drunk people yelling, "TOURISTS!"), walked in surprisingly the right direction, and helped by a man who claimed it was his birthday (even though he was alone) with an iPhone.  Gibson met us half way, and we crashed once we sat on the couch.

FRIDAY:
We woke up.  We went in search of cappuccinos. Then headed on the "tube" to Oxford Street where we spent the entire day shopping.  I bought a simple grey hoodie from Forever XXI and these cute boots from Top Shop: my new favorite store EVER.  After getting ready for the night, we headed out to this pub called O'Neill's.  It was completely different from the Milano club scene...but it was a nice change!
English Pub

SATURDAY:
Lunch at Chilango's.  P.S. I'm an avid Chipotle fan--you all know this.  But, we heard that Chipotle in Europe is a severe disappointment.  Therefore, in order to save my tastebuds from "bad Chipotle", we ate at Chilango's....twice.  After filling out bellies, we went sightseeing.  It was beautiful, amazing, incredible, but so very tiring.  That night we were supposed to go to this 9th anniversary of Koko (a cool club) but we opted for a neighborhood pub due to our lack of "party-girl" energy.
Buckingham Palace

SUNDAY:
Finally enjoyed a grande at Starbucks.  Which was definitely a beautiful change from the two-sip espresso/cappuccinos we get in Milano.  Don't get me wrong--they have excellent coffee, but I miss the comfort of Starbucks.  We spent the rest of the day shopping, and window shopping...and getting discriminated against by the Chanel handbag lady...who quickly told me to remove my water bottle from the shelf, and who was so kind to let me know that, "these are luxury items...they can't be marked by your hands."
these saved our lives--multiple times
MONDAY:
We ventured over to Brick Lane after yet another cup of coffee from Starbucks.  We tried to find Banksy, but once again we didn't do enough research, and left without finding any.  We did find some cool pieces, though.  And then we were off on the bus, then the plane, and back to Milano...after an excellent first trip!!

jibjab

Have you all ever done a video on jibjab.com before?!
It's so fun...I did a Christmas elf one a few Christmases ago, and I just did another one tonight.

It's a little self absorbed, because it's all pictures of me, but I think that makes it funnier.
Oh, and there is one imposter.  It's this guy that tried to get re-named "Boomer the Dog".  He has bangs like me, so I thought he'd fit in.

Enjoy :) It's a bit silly, but I hope you like it!!

the gift of giving

This holiday season I decided, for myself, that I want to find out what the gift of giving is all about.  For the past 19 Christmases that I have had, I've been carried away with my Christmas List, what I want, and basically it's been all about take take take.  This year, I don't really know what I want for Christmas.  Except maybe some warms clothes to update my wardrobe.

That's why I'm making it my priority to be a giver this season.  I already decided that I want to make homemade holiday cards to send out to my friends, but as I was scrolling through weheartit, I have finally found the gift that I plan on giving.  It's simple, yummy, and cute.  It's a s'mores kit!  (Feel free to steal the idea, I know I did.)

paris

I really want to go back to Paris.

Ever since Kelcy and I went with Mom and Dad when we were in fifth grade (wow...ten years ago!), I've wanted to go back.  With four years of high school French, a love for gorgeous men, and even a growing love for art under my belt, I feel like it's the perfect time to put it all to use overseas.

It didn't help matters that the beginning of this season of Gossip Girl started in Paris.  Seeing Blair and Serena galavant around the city of love immediately triggered my brain into thinking how amazing it would be to spend a summer in France with my best friend (and twin sister), Kelcy.

So let's do it! :)

time to try

I've always been interested in art. One Thursday every month, my high school drama teacher would take us to the Phoenix Art Museum. It was here that we would spend two hours without direct supervision, just exploring 285,000 square feet of art work from all different eras, centuries, and mediums. The irony in all of this, however, was the fact that these museum trips sparked my interest in visual arts when I went to a purely performing arts school. Even so, I would doodle in my notebook, go to the store and buy paints and canvas, and try to teach myself how to paint and draw. Now that I am at university, I have added to my sketchbook when I'm alone, feel sad, or just get that urge to create something. Although I still really have no professional training, I look to the vast number of inspiring artists on countless websites to learn and grow.
These are some of the works that inspire me to try new mediums and get into my car and over to the art store down the street. Maybe someone there can give me a little advice.

Lastly, I'm trying to come up with my own style. Looking at P@t Perry's art, you wouldn't guess that this is how he goes about it. I hope to find my own style soon, and create a piece that can be displayed in my new house that I share with my two best friends.
